If you were to ask Freya to recount tales from her childhood years, she would claim that everything was irrelevant before she turned eleven years old.
The youngest of three siblings, everything about Freya’s temperament screamed that she was the last in the birth order. Constantly fighting for attention over her older siblings, she was something of a family clown right from the beginning. When she wasn’t at school, she was orchestrating plays in her living room with her siblings; whipping together costumes with her parent’s clothes and whatever else she was allowed to get her hands on.
It was no surprise then that when an open casting call was announced for Harry Potter that the Mill’s encouraged Freya to submit an audition tape. She was the quintessential Ginny, they reasoned, and even if she didn’t get the part, it was something to keep her creative mind occupied for an afternoon. With Scott behind the camcorder, she delivered a passionate monologue on being constantly picked on by her older brother and sister, and how cool it would be to have more gingers in movies to look up to. Her parents mailed it off to the studio, and all of her friends promised to keep their fingers and toes crossed.
For the first week of waiting, her audition was all Freya could think about. Each day she came back from school, she asked her parents as to whether or not the casting agents had called, only to be met with a sinking feeling of disappointment each time. By the second week, it had simply become something to think about before she fell asleep at night, as she was generally too pre-occupied during the day to dwell.
When the news came some odd weeks later that they wanted to meet her for an in-person audition, Freya could hardly believe her luck. She would end up landing the coveted role of Ginny Weasley much to her complete and utter surprise, and from that moment on, her life would be turned upside down.
The next ten years of her life would be a whirlwind of filming, promotion, and trying to squeeze in some semblance of a normal childhood. Stepping onto set with a bunch of actors her age who were just as green to the profession as her would prove to be something that would bond them together for many years to come. The Harry Potter cast and crew became her second family, and she spent her time off set yearning to be back to work and filming. There were certainly emotional teenage years that could sometimes make it difficult for her to remember to stay ground, but the overwhelming support of her family and their refusal to treat her as anything other than normal always managed to guide her through.
Continuing her education in her downtime was something that was instilled in her as being a necessity. Freya didn’t particularly mind, it gave her a chance to mingle with other people her own age outside of the industry. For the most part, no one seemed to care that she was Ginny Weasley, since that hardly mattered in terms of judging her academic success. While she was undeniably proud of her work in the Harry Potter movies, the feeling of seeing her parents ‘smiles as she walked across the stage to receive her university degree took a close second.
With Harry Potter wrapped, and her educational goals completed for now, Freya is now starting to focus on attempting to break into the coveted realm of American cinema. Despite not having managed to find her big break just yet, Freya is enjoying being in her early twenties and working at a more leisurely and manageable pace. She figures that the time will come when it wants to come, though her nonchalant attitude is certainly aided by the fact that she never has to worry about being a starving actress.
